It's the Little Things...
When the thought of quitting Whole30 crosses my mind, I remind myself of the little things called non-scale victories (NSVs) I have noticed throughout my journey. Since I can't step on the scale or measure myself for the full 30 days, I have to rely on the little things to tell if Whole30 is making any sort of impact. I can assure you it is and I will not be disappointed when I do finally step on the scale and take measurements on May 2nd!
NSVs come in many forms. Mood, emotions, psychology, physical (inside and outside), food behaviors, brain function, sleep, energy, exercise, sports, lifestyle and social are the many areas in which one may witness NSVs. To date, I have noticed fewer sugar and carb cravings, feeling a sense of control over food, glowing skin, whiter teeth, faster growing and healthier fingernails, flatter stomach, looser clothing, less bloating, no more food guilt or shame, sleeping more soundly and no more mid-day energy slump. With 10 days to go, I can't wait to see how my NSVs evolve!
As previously mentioned, I have extremely sensitive skin where breakouts are common. I also have a very fair complexion which does not allow for hiding imperfections. I have never found a product that combats my skin issues, but I can tell you the changes I have made in the food that I consume has made a HUGE impact. Below is a picture taken in natural sunlight with no filters or editing after getting ready this morning. My skin is softer, smoother, less finicky and glows! I am finally at a place where I can feel comfortable in my own skin!
As for not having cravings, I can assure you I have had many times where my willpower has been tested throughout these past 21 days. This weekend was no exception. We made a trip to Beatrice to deliver our camper to its new owners. Knowing we would be gone for a good portion of the day, I packed my lunch and advised Mike he could just stop somewhere and grab something for himself while we were on the road. Not only did he get a sandwich and fries from Burger King, but an M&M Blizzard from Dairy Queen which were within close proximity to me as they sat on the center console between us. To even my own amazement, I never once had any desire to take a bite. This is proof in itself I have officially slayed the sugar dragon and it feels so good!!!
With Day 21 and Week 3 coming to a close, I am excited to move into Week 4 and my final 9 days. I am even more excited to see how my body reacts to all of the foods in which I will not have consumed for 30 days following this Whole30 journey and see how well my Whole30 habits stick. On to Week 4 I go!!!
