Another Week in the Books!
Week 2 has come and gone... I am now at the halfway point at Day 15 and couldn't be more excited about where I'm at physically! My skin is clearing up and my clothes are beginning to feel looser. My energy is slowly increasing and my cravings have completely subsided.
I can tell I have come a long way since Day 1 as I trusted myself enough on Friday to venture to Omaha after work for an impromptu shopping trip without taking any Whole30 compliant food along. My first stop was Village Pointe to find more weather appropriate attire to wear to my cousin's wedding the following day as there was a blizzard forecasted. I decided my short dress and heels were not going to cut it! After a successful trip to the mall, I made my way to Hy-Vee to complete my grocery shopping for the week ahead. Before hitting the checkouts, I threw in a few Whole30 compliant foods to enjoy during the trip back to Home Sweet Howells! (Don't mind how dry my hands are in the pictures below---apparently they are still adjusting to my diet change.)
At the last minute, we had 5 wedding guests/family members commit to staying with us from Friday night through Sunday morning due to the snow projected. I spent two nights sleeping on the couch and watched our company eat a hearty breakfast casserole and cinnamon rolls both mornings. Though this could have easily derailed me from the Whole30 train, I kept chugging along. Saturday morning, I prepped food to take with me to the wedding. Yes, I was that crazy lady who packed her own food so as to remain compliant. With Whole30, there is no forgiveness. If you cheat just one time, you must start over with Day 1. I tried explaining this to my mom on Saturday morning, but let's just say she is a nonbeliever of Whole30. However, habits are not formed by cheating!
At the wedding reception, there was a candy bar, drinks were free all night, meat and potatoes were served for dinner, the cake was layered in frosting and fancy fillings and a nacho bar ended the night. I held my composure through it all and never once considered eating or drinking anything outside of what I knew I could have going into the evening. My brother even dared me to bring him nachos and cheese as he didn't think I could do it without eating it. I graciously served him his nachos and cheese without any desire to partake. I would certainly consider this a WIN and a huge NSV (non-scale victory)!!!
To celebrate another successful week, we ended the weekend by dining on non-marinated chicken kabobs (which I have been longing for since the previous Hy-Vee trip mishap), along with baked potatoes and grapes. If you don't know what Hy-Vee mishap I am referring to, please see my "What to Expect When You're Whole30'ing" blog entry.
You might be wondering how I could eat a baked potato without sour cream and butter... Thankfully, there is this lovely product on the market called ghee which allows me to still enjoy a good, old fashioned baked potato without any guilt! Now, you are probably wondering what ghee is... Ghee is a type of clarified butter which has had the milk solids and water removed from it. Since the milk solids are removed, it is no longer a dairy product which makes it Whole30 compliant.
After today, I will officially be on the downward slope to food freedom! These past 14 days have already taught me so much about myself and how food affects my appearance, mood and motivation. I can't wait to see what the next 2 weeks bring... Here's to another 2 weeks of focus, blogging and Whole30 fun!!!
